Is there anything that you know now that you wished you would have known then (when you were choosing your AFSC)?
Nope. I came into the military just as I was finishing my Ph.D., so I chose my field first, and the Air Force second. Is there anything I wish I knew before going to grad school? Only that it would be so tough. I'm not talking tough academically -- not that it's easy, but the academics were manageable. I'm talking about the fact that you are balancing a million things at one time. For example, I had a rigorous academic program, I saw patients, and I worked in research all at the same time. Also, I always had a few jobs as my program's funding did not cover all my living expenses (though there are loans available to assist with this). I chose to have a personal life while I was in grad school because I valued it, but that was just another thing to balance. It was tough. Again, it was TOTALLY worth it, but just know what you're getting into. And make sure you have someone to vent to when you get stressed out!
